Knockrah Moonshadow

Moonshadow was the first purebred to be owned by the Kohatu Partnership. She was bred in the hopes of producing a colt that could potentially have been used as an heir to Lonsdale Moonwind. The lack of a colt was Kohatu's gain, and the little black filly was instrumental in us developing the rather grandiose plans that we currently have.

As a three year old, we felt she was physically, but not mentally, mature enough to begin formal training or ridden work. For this reason, and to share the same generosity that enabled us to form our 'stud' in the first place, Moonshadow was offered to another stud, who stood her late maternal grandsire. She has produced a 2007 colt foal for them, and by all accounts was a fine mother.

Moonshadow has now been returned to us, and has been backed. It is our hope that we can find a suitable child rider for her for a few years. While we would certainly like to breed from her ourselves, it is a big part of our philosophy that the ponies should also perform. She certainly seems to have a good work ethic, and to enjoy being ridden.
